911 call reveals frantic efforts to help Moore

Demi Moore arrives at Variety's 3rd Annual Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Calif., in this Sept. 23, 2011 photo. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 911 recording revealed frantic efforts by friends of Demi Moore to get help for the actress who was convulsing as they gathered around her and tried to comfort her.

Moore was "semi-conscious, barely," according to a female caller on the recording released Friday by Los Angeles fire officials.

The woman tells emergency operators that Moore, 49, had smoked something before she was rushed to the hospital on Monday night and that she had been "having issues lately."

"Is she breathing normal?" the operator asks.

"No, not so normal. More kind of shaking, convulsing, burning up," the friend says as she hurries to Moore's side, on the edge of panic.

Another woman is next to Moore as the dispatcher asks if she's responsive.

"Demi, can you hear me?" she asks. "Yes, she's squeezing hands. ... She can't speak."

When the operator asks what Moore ingested or smoked, the friend replies, but the answer was redacted.

Asked if Moore took the substance intentionally or not, the woman says Moore ingested it on purpose but the reaction was accidental.

"Whatever she took, make sure you have it out for the paramedics," the operator says.

The operator asks the friend if this has happened before.

"I don't know," she says. "There's been some stuff recently that we're all just finding out."

Moore's publicist, Carrie Gordon, said previously that the actress sought professional help to treat her exhaustion and improve her health. She would not comment further on the emergency call or provide details about the nature or location of Moore's treatment.

The past few months have been rocky for Moore.

She released a statement in November announcing she had decided to end her marriage to fellow actor Ashton Kutcher, 33, following news of alleged infidelity. The two were known to publicly share their affection for one another via Twitter.

Moore still has a Twitter account under the name mrskutcher but has not posted any messages since Jan. 7.

Meanwhile, Millennium Films announced Friday that Sarah Jessica Parker will replace Moore in the role of feminist Gloria Steinem in its production of "Lovelace," a biopic about the late porn star Linda Lovelace. A statement gave no reason for the change. The production, starring Amanda Seyfried, has been shooting in Los Angeles since Dec. 20.

During the call, the woman caller says the group of friends had turned Moore's head to the side and was holding her down. The dispatcher tells her not to hold her down but to wipe her mouth and nose and watch her closely until paramedics arrive.

"Make sure that we keep an airway open," the dispatcher says. "Even if she passes out completely, that's OK. Stay right with her."

The phone is passed around by four people, including a woman who gives directions to the gate and another who recounts details about what Moore smoked or ingested. Finally, the phone is given to a man named James, so one of the women can hold Moore's head.

There was some confusion at the beginning of the call. The emergency response was delayed by nearly two minutes as Los Angeles and Beverly Hills dispatchers sorted out which city had jurisdiction over the street where Moore lives.

As the call is transferred to Beverly Hills, the frantic woman at Moore's house raises her voice and said, "Why is an ambulance not on its way right now?"

"Ma'am, instead of arguing with me why an ambulance is not on the way, can you spell (the street name) for me?" the Beverly Hills dispatcher says.

Although the estate is located in the 90210 ZIP code above Benedict Canyon, the response was eventually handled by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

By the end of the call, Moore has improved.

"She seems to have calmed down now. She's speaking," the male caller told the operator.

Moore and Kutcher were wed in September 2005.

Kutcher became a stepfather to Moore's three daughters — Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle — from her 13-year marriage to actor Bruce Willis. Moore and Willis divorced in 2000 but remained friendly.

Moore can be seen on screen in the recent films "Margin Call" and "Another Happy Day." Kutcher replaced Charlie Sheen on TV's "Two and a Half Men" and is part of the ensemble film "New Year's Eve."

The average working class parent is working marathon hours for less pay while fighting rising bills and trying to find time to take care of children. I have little pity for actors with millions of dollars claiming exhaustion. Other than partying, doing drugs and going to the gym, what are they doing with most of their time?

Addiction is hard thing to attempt to manage. I can't stand her persona nor her work (nor his, for that matter), but she has been struggling for decades with this issue, so maybe we should all just pray she doesn't die.

John O - Do I detect a hint of class envy? Exaustion is a real syndrome, and it can sometimes be fatal as it can lead to a stroke, heart attack and sometimes even kidney failure. Just becasue she isn't "average working class parent" doen't mean she is immune from illness. I'm sure you do work just as hard taking care of your family, but instead of hating her, try to improve yourself and your situation. I'm not all that fond of most of Hollywood, either, but successful actors didn't just magically appear; most of them worked their tails off to be the best in their professions. Can you say the same about your efforts in your chosen field? Try to have some compassion; she is, after all, a fellow human being.

Now that this has been told, leave her alone. In the grand scheme of things, this is not important.

if you're going "grand", then by that philosophy, neither is your advice.

The only good prescription for exhaustion is sacktime. Not meds.

Why do any of it? What advantage is there in being out of your mind?

Some people think of it as an escape from reality. I on the other hand think that if life is that stressful, either take a real vacation or get rid of who or what is causing the stress or both. Leave the drugs for sick people.

its weird because it comes from the Assoc. Press. for some reason they don't feel it important to put the pieces into the proper context or even spell things correctly...wish I could have that job!!!
Anytime you read an AP article posted to Yahoo it reads wierd

Sadly, she found out that no matter what the problem, dope is never the answer.

Professor Bluntston told me to tell you all that the CREATOR DOES NOT and DID NOT CREATE DOPE/DRUGS" MAN" MAKE DRUGS .Cannabis is not and never was a drug if it is then OUR BODY is apart of that drug. Cannabinoids which is a chemical in the human body which come from the EARTH as well as one of the NATURAL CHEMICALS in CANNABIS. An herb given to relax the BODY and MIND NATURALLY be it used by smoking, vaporizing, eaten, or in topical form.Oh yeah and smoking it DOES NOT HARM THE LUNGS if you haven't heard. The original HOLY OIL that Jesus and the Popes used up until 1937 was CANNABIS OIL. Hmmmmm so ALL OF YOU PEOPLE are saying THE CREATOR gave his SON ANOINTED DOPE OIL which came from the herb of the field that yield seed.CHECK OUT REEFER RHETORIC.

You it's really sad with all the information out today about the many many positive uses The American People and People all over the World could get out of the use of the NATURALLY GROWN NON TOXIC PLANT called CANNABIS. It shows the WORLD that the American People are not only wasteful but WE ARE not SMART ENOUGH to PRODUCE a PRODUCT that would be beneficial to the HEALTH and ECONOMY of AMERICA FOR AMERICA. House Representatives like Bill Flores of Texas want to IMPORT HEMP from Southeast Asia instead of letting the Texas farmers prosper. WAKE UP PEOPLE STOP THE PROPAGANDA END THE PROHIBITION ON CANNABIS OUR ECONOMY DEPEND ON IT. Professor Bluntston

She was probably smoking salvia or K2. More likely K2 since it's not designed/intended to be smoked and people are putting all kinds of stuff in it since its synthetic. On top of any other drugs she took, it triggered the reaction. Stupid people do stupid things. What can you say?

I posted a comment recently that questioned the celebrity definition of "exhaustion." I think I was a little too hasty in my judgement. It sounds like Ms. Moore was near death when the 911 call was made, so it looks like her condition was quite far beyond exhaustion. If she was smoking or ingesting something dangerous, she was already flirting with the grim reaper. I hope she makes a full recovery and no matter what's going on in her life, stays away from substances that could potentially take her away from her children and those who love her. I wish that same thing for all people with any sort of emotional problems, be they substance-related or otherwise. GET HELP! THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO LOVE AND NEED YOU!

You know I was just thinking, these celebrities are vampires. I'm not even talking about the money, but the time and energy so many people put into worrying about these celebrities' lives.

Gee you know I ended my marriage becuase of infidelity once and with two little children, but having to care for them and pay the bills was what I was thinking about - not drugs.

If medical information is kept personal why in the heck are 911 calls played on the air. I would think someone could sue for releasing this information especially when it is done just to defame someone.

Where do these people find these ridiculous children's names (e.g., Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle) these days? They're children, not personalized "vanity" plates that you'd put on a car!

What has happened to you people to make you so nasty and hateful? Seriously. Demi Moore is a human being, isn't she? Just because you are rich and have money does not mean you cannot have serious problems and desrving of the same compassion as someone who is poor and has problems. I understand people wishing that they had the money that somebody like Demi Moore has but being nasty when she is hurt does nothing but reflect on how shallow and empty your own soul is. I feel sorry for you, haters, but I have far more compassion for Demi.
